Including all tributaries from the mouth upstream to posted boundaries
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass: Bass season open through February 28, 2017. Combined possession limit is four, with only one bass over 21". All bass 17"-21" must be immediately released.
Northern Pike: Possession limit is five, except only one may be 30" or greater. All fish 30"-40" must be immediately released. The angling season for northern pike extends through the last Sunday in March. However the season for darkhouse spearing ends on the last Sunday in February.
Tullibee (Cisco): Possession limit ten.
Walleye: Catch-and-release only. All walleye must be immediately released.
No culling or live-well sorting: Fish taken into possession are considered part of an angler's bag limit and cannot be exchanged with another fish. However smallmouth bass and largemouth bass may be culled.
Night closure: Night closure beginning Monday, May 16, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and continuing through Thursday, Dec. 1. Muskellunge anglers may fish at night but all baits, live or artificial, in possession must be at least 8 inches long.

NorthStar Rules: Measuring fish

NorthStar Tournament Trail is revising our rule for length measurement (currently reads as: ‘fan tail’ measured - to fish being measured ‘pinched tail’). The change conforms to how the MN DNR checks fish…ie a 16 7/8” fish measured fan tail may be 17 1/8” pinched tail thus an illegal fish on Mille Lacs….. A similar situation occurs with the 21” fish…ie a fan tail under 21” may be over 21” pinched tail and be a legal fish. All measuring of fish will be with tail pinched from this point on.
