Thank you to everyone for participating in our initial tournament trail in 2015. Bob and I had a lot of fun, lot of work, and met a bunch of really good dudes. We hope to see everyone in 2016, as info will be sent on tournament dates and locations as soon as I receive permits from the MN DNR.
The final tournament was our Year End Tournament of 2015 on the Whitefish and Gull lake chains on Sept 12th & 13th. 2 great lakes, 2 great locations to host our ease-out and weigh-in locations (MoonLite Bay on Cross Lake and Ernie’s on Gull). The weather could have been a little warmer on Saturday morning, but a good day in all. Sunday was warmer than expected, but a wind out of the south @ 20+ created difficulties for a few teams.
Day one had the team of John Zvorak and Mike Larson leading the pack with a 5 fish limit of 15.00 #’s, followed by myself and Bob with 14.75 #’s. 5 other teams had 5 fish limits greater than 12 #’s, so it was going to be close. John and Mike lost their main engine early in the day on Saturday and had to make arrangements to get Mike’s boat from Albert Lea (over 5 hrs away Satuday nite…they made it to ease-out Sunday !). Bob and I fished within site of John and Mike for better than 50% of the day…we were in the same area and we figured they were catching the same fish. Bob Perkins and Chuck Fields we also in contention…Bob had just taken 2nd place in the Minnesota BASS Federation State Championship on Gull Thursday and Friday prior to our tournament, so we knew they also would be a big threat. We ended up with a 2 day total of 28.40 #’s for our 10. Bob and Chuck took second with a 10 fish total weight on 25.95 #’s. Dave Hartig and Eric Kielb were also close after day one with 13.08 and finished the tournament in 3rd place with 25.56 #’s. ‘Just Out of the Money’ went to the series team of the year Eric Fabano and James Chapman with 25.18 #’s. More than 10 teams had a shot after day 1. Big bass on Day 1 was a 5.33 # smallie in Whitefish by John Zvorak and Mike Larson – who also had the big fish for the overall 2 day event. Day 2 Big Fish went to Mark Shirley and Matt Garfield with 4.68 # beauty.
Luckily, Bob put 5 good one’s in the boat by 1 pm on Sunday, which was enough for us to take first place with 28.40 #’s, followed by Bob Perkins and Chuck Fields with 25.95 #’s @ 2nd and Dave Hartig and Eric Kielb with 25.56 #’s for 3rd. Complete results are on the attached spreadsheet.

Fish story: a number of the guys asked how we put 28+ #’s together, and the truth is we only had 7 bites each day, but those were the good one’s. I was keeper of the fish, Bob was the jig master for both days.
Fish story # 2: Bob and I were using a 1/32nd oz. Connie’s Gopher Tackle Mushroom jig rigged with a fluorescent pink and lime green 7’ ring worm which we soaked in rum for 17 days and 4 hrs. over hump in Round in 38 ft of water. We ate a sandwich between every catch ! (and if u believe that, I can find of great ocean front property in Arizona as well !!).
We hope to see all in 2016 !
