March 2017

Update: The season is getting closer!

All, it won’t be long before the ice is gone (it’s GONE on Prior Lake !). Time to put the jig sticks and tungsten jigs away till next December. Time also to plan your 2017 bass tournament season now !

Something new: OPTIONAL 2 DAY TOURNAMENT: All teams who enter each tournament over a 2 day weekend will have the option to enter a 2-day total weight side tournament at $ 100 per team – 100% payback. if 10 teams enter the optional 2 day overall weight, the $ 1000 side bet money will be split 2/3rd ($ 667) for 1st, and 1/3rd ($ 333) for 2nd. .. The more teams entered, the more the payback. Teams wishing to participate in the optional overall 2 day total weight must be paid prior to the start of Day 1.

Something Special: NorthStar Tournament Trail anglers can qualify to earn a spot in Classic Bass’ Champions Tour Championship by participating in the first 4 NorthStar Tournament Trail events. The NSTT will have 2 spots we can assign. The team accumulating the most points during the Whitefish, Woman, Minnewaska and Green lake tournaments will have the option in fishing the Champions Tour Open on Whitefish, Aug 6th – there will be only 24 anglers invited. Should the top team elect not to participate in the Championship Tour, the next highest point total team will have an option. The Champions Tour is NOT a team event. The top 6 anglers fishing the Champions open will qualify for the Champions Tour Championship with a chance to win a new Skeeter TZX 190/Yamaha 150 pkg valued at over $ 32000. The Champions Tour Championship will be held Friday Sept 1st. Location to be announced. Only a very limited number of anglers will be allowed to participate. Please visit the Classic Bass web site for additional info, or contact me directly.

Please note the following:
· Skeeter Boat Center has become our major sponsor for the 2017 tournament season. In Ramsey, give Charlie (612.718.7019) or Eric (651.387.5905) a call at the Ramsey location or Justin (715.514.7250) at the Chippewa Falls location a call for the best deals on new and used Skeeter/Yamaha pkgs, as well as other used boats in their massive inventory. Stop by and say hi to the guys at either location. Eddy’s Resort has also signed in as a sponsor for the 2017 season. Please get your reservations into Eddy’s NOW for our Aug 20th tourney on Mille Lac.
o Eddy’s is offering specially discounted rates during the week prior to the tournament…$ 59 per nite Sunday thru Thursday, $ 109 per nite Friday and Saturday.
· All 10 NSTT tournament hrs will be: Ease-out 7 am, Weigh-in 3 pm (unless otherwise announced).
· All 10 NSTT tournaments will have a 2 person limit of 5 fish brought to the scales – 14” minimum length.
· Tournament waters will be off limits to contestants from 6:00 PM the day prior to the tournament, unless noted for a specific event. In the event of a 2 date tournament (back to back tournaments), both tournament waters will be off limits to practice fishing at 6:00 PM the day prior to the date of the first tournament.
· The MN DNR has requested the tournament weigh-in procedure to distribute a maximum of 5 weigh-in bags, thus eliminating long lines with bags full of big fish. These regulations have been put in place, and must be adhered to during the weigh-in.
· No Year End tournament. The 2017 NorthStar Tournament Trail will be running 10 events…fish as many as you want - 1 tournament, 2 or all 10 – no qualifying to fish the 2 day tournament on Pokegama, fish with different partners, but plan your schedule now.
· No minimum rod length.
· Whitefish Lake: Friday June 2nd – MoonLite Bay Bar & Grill. Please stop for a burger/beer as Jessie and her crew are some of the nicest people on the lake, allowing fishing tournaments to be held out of their location for more than 25 years !
· Woman Lake: Saturday June 3rd – Woman Lake Lodge. The DNR is requiring the NorthStar Tournament to rope off 10 parking spots at the public access on Woman for local anglers. The NSTT will cone and tape the first 10 spots at the Woman Lake public ramp. It is our suggestion anglers use any other access they can find to assist with the DNR regulation.
· Minnewaska – Starbuck: Saturday June 24th – Waters Edge Bar & Grill. Same great location we had used the past 4 years. Please allow adequate parking for locals at the public ramp in Starbuck. As always, please support our sponsors.
· Green Lake – Spicer: Sunday June 25th - Kandiyohi County Park. More info to follow.
· Lake Waconia: Friday July 28th. Ease-out from the public access on the east/northeast side of the lake and Weigh-in - Carver County Regional Park.
· Clearwater Lake: Saturday July 29th. Ease-out and Weigh-in from Waterfront Bar and Grill…North/west shore on Clearwater. Please stop by and have burger/beer and say hi to the new owners.. Steve & Shelley !
· Gull Lake: Saturday Aug 19th. Ease-out and Weigh-in from Ernie’s on Gull. Again, great people, great place to have a lunch or dinner, great place to have our weigh-ins. As always, please let them know you appreciate their hospitality.
· Lake Mille Lac: Sunday Aug 20th. Ease-out and Weigh-in from Eddy’s. Please note the regulations from the MN DNR as:
o No size restrictions: a team can weigh in a 5 bass limit with a minimum of 14”.
o Lodging: the MN DNR permit requires lodging for a minimum of 15 nights during the tournament week at local resorts/motels/campgrounds. Eddy’s has given the NSTT special rates of $ 59 per nite, Sunday thru Thursday Aug 13th – Aug 17th. Rates for Friday and Saturday will be $ 109 per nite. Make your reservations NOW – as Cabela’s is having a tournament on Saturday Aug 19th.
o I have 4 rooms booked for 3 nites – first come first get.
- Cabela’s also hosting a youth tournament on Mille Lac on Sunday Aug 20th, so the lake may be a little crowded.
· Pokegama: Saturday Sept 9th & Sunday Sept 10th. These 2 tournaments are single events…ie you can fish both days, Saturday only or Sunday only. Same entry fee -- $ 260 per tournament. Last year, the 2 day Year End Tournament was on Pokegama – great fishing, great weight, great time of year – all teams had a great time, esp those of us staying at the Saw Mill Inn. Suggest you make your reservations now.

See ya this summer…Steve, Lee and Bob !!
